Breadcrumbs Are for Ducks; Modern Dating Is Dog-Eat-Dog

If any concept or behavior was perfect for the saying “for the birds,” it would be breadcrumbing. Breadcrumbing can be done both unintentionally and intentionally, and both can have a very painful impact on the affected individual’s mental health and self-image. I think we’ve all been on both sides of the issue.

As a girl, I’ve noticed most men who breadcrumb do it intentionally. This can look like late-night check-ins, flirting without any idea of how it’s being perceived by the other person, disappearing and then returning once emotional detachment is felt, future faking, cyberstalking, exposing their commitment issues, or acting different in public settings.

If your brain cannot tell what this looks like your mind will confuse reality and fantasy. Your mind will begin trying to complete a picture that was never created.

Our desire to love is mixed with our experience with Yearning. When we yearn we anticipate how certain things will feel when we secure the person or thing we've been chasing. We get dopamine hits from the smallest things like glances, compliments, short-term physical contact and a person remembering an easy to remember fact about you.

I always thought I was just a “lover girl,” but I actually just had undiagnosed Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The diagnosis helped me connect some dots; however, I can’t blame ADHD for all of my behaviors. ADHD can influence an individual’s brain to develop a hyperfixation on a person, routine, dynamic, aesthetic, or goal.

Cheers to self-discovery 🥂

It’s always the bigger picture and most people are just in it for the thrill or the adrenaline rush. Girl, IDK anymore!!
