Weekend love or Love that last a weekend?

A few days ago I heard the song “Purple rain” by Prince on tik tok. I heard it playing behind an edit. When i heard the song the lyrics that stuck out to me the most were

“ I never wanted to be your weekend lover I only wanted to be some kind of friend, hey Baby, I could never steal you from another, It's such a shame our friendship had to end"

These lyrics stuck out to me the most because why do we have weekend lovers? Why have we normalized dynamics that consist of hiding your partner, quiet/unbeknownst love and midnight rendezvous? Have we lost the plot?

Dating in this society is a nightmare as someone who truly yearns for true and consistent human connection. I often look at love in movies, the examples of love I witnessed growing up and I suck my teeth. What happen to monogamy? What is a roster? At the end of the day it’s all comedic to think about.

I like to sleep alone the thought of an empty bed in my prime and future years to come does get a little depressing.

I also understand it’s a trend and just the way people like to move around nowadays. I still have hope for love. I do constantly say “I hate men” but maybe One day prince charming will come to save me… Or not, Maybe I’ll save me.
